Ojo de Agua

Ojo de Agua is a winery and estate located in Agrelo in the Luján de Cuyo region of Mendoza, Argentina, one of the country’s most famous wine-producing areas at the foothills of the Andes Mountains. The estate was founded by Swiss artist, entrepreneur, and musician Dieter Meier in the 1990s, when he purchased a historic 19th-century property and began producing organic wines. Over time, the estate developed into a boutique winery known for combining wine production with organic agriculture and sustainable practices.

The vineyards are planted in the Alto Agrelo area, which is considered one of the best terroirs in Mendoza for red wine production. The estate covers roughly 100 hectares of vineyards, planted with varieties such as Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, and Torrontés. Mendoza’s high altitude, sunny days, and cool nights create ideal conditions for ripening grapes while maintaining acidity and aromatic intensity. The wines produced at Ojo de Agua are known for their freshness, strong fruit character, and clear expression of individual grape varieties, often achieved through careful vineyard management and single-vineyard vinification.

Puro Corte

Puro Corte is a red blend that reflects the richness and character of the region’s high-altitude vineyards. The wine is a Merlot-based blend, combined with varieties such as Malbec and Syrah, grown in the estate’s organic vineyards in Agrelo, Luján de Cuyo, at about 1,100 meters above sea level. These vineyards sit near the foothills of the Andes on well-drained alluvial soils, which help produce grapes with concentration and structure.

In appearance, Puro Corte usually shows a deep, dark garnet or purple-red color, indicating its intensity and richness. On the nose, the wine often presents ripe red and dark fruit aromas, such as strawberry, plum, and blackberry, along with more complex notes of herbs, earthy tones, and subtle spice and hints of oak influence, such as vanilla or light toast, from the aging process in French oak barrels.

On the palate, Puro Corte is medium- to full-bodied, with juicy fruit flavors balanced by firm tannins and refreshing acidity. The wine is structured yet approachable, offering layers of dark fruit, spice, and earthy notes with a long and persistent finish. Overall, it is a bold and expressive blend that highlights the power and character of Mendoza wines while maintaining balance and freshness. Certified Organic & vegan.

Region

Luján de Cuyo is one of the most important wine regions in Mendoza, Argentina, located at the foothills of the Andes Mountains, about 25 km south of Mendoza city. The region is considered the historic heart of Argentine Malbec production and was the first area in Argentina to receive an official appellation status (DOC) in 1993. Vineyards are typically planted at high altitudes between about 800 and 1,100 meters above sea level, which plays a key role in shaping the climate and the style of wines produced there.

Climate & Terroir

The climate of Luján de Cuyo is generally semi-arid and sunny, with warm days and cool nights due to its elevation and proximity to the Andes. This large day–night temperature variation helps grapes ripen slowly while preserving acidity and aromatic complexity. Rainfall in the region is relatively low, meaning irrigation from Andean snowmelt and rivers is essential for viticulture. The combination of abundant sunlight, dry conditions, and altitude creates excellent conditions for producing high-quality grapes with concentrated flavors.

The terroir of Luján de Cuyo is strongly influenced by its alluvial soils and mountainous landscape. Many vineyards are planted on soils formed by deposits from rivers flowing down from the Andes. These soils are typically sandy, stony, or gravelly with clay beneath, providing excellent drainage and moderate fertility. Such conditions naturally limit vine vigor and encourage deep root systems, resulting in grapes with greater concentration and complexity.

Ideal drinking temperature 16° Celsius.
