Oxer Wines Kalamity Rioja
The name and its striking label express Oxer's admiration for Shakespeare. "Honi soit
qui mal y pense" (Shame befall the one who thinks badly). It was born in the 2014 vintage, with the idea of combining a selection of the best grapes from the vineyards of Elvillar (Rioja Alavesa) and Cárdenas (Rioja Alta).
Tasting Notes
Kalamity shows complexity and variety of aromas. Black and red fruit, floral notes with violets in the background and light sweet spice. A wine of good acidity, mineral and of enormous length and storage.
Grape variety: 48% Tempranillo, 48% Garnacha, 2% Viura, 2% Garnacha Blanca.
Vineyards: 1ha vineyard planted in 1920 in the town of Elvillar (Rioja Alavesa) at 600 meters of altitude, on clay-calcareous soil. Old-fashioned mixed plantation of Tempranillo, Viura and Garnacha Blanca, with a yield of 3,000 kg per hectare. On the other hand, a 3ha vineyard planted in 1903 in Cárdenas (Rioja Alta) at 580 meters of altitude. Clay-ferrous soils with slightly more than 10% stone, giving us low yields, around 2,000 kg per ha.
Vinification: Fermentation with its own yeasts in used 500-liter French oak barrels, in
amphoras and in concrete eggs. It performs malolactic fermentation in used barrels of
500L. Subsequent aging for 12 months in used French oak barrels.
Serving temperature: Serve at 16.0°C.
