Nikolaihof Gruner Veltliner Federspiel 2015 Late Release
With almost 2,000 years of history, Nikolaihof is the oldest winery in Austria and one of the first in the world to have begun working by biodynamic principles according to the regulations of the Demeter Association. No herbicides, fertilisers, pesticides, or synthetic sprays are used in the vineyards. The scent of the 2015 Federspiel Im Weingebirge is reminiscent of cooling biscuit dough, biscuit and a little caramel with lemon curd, ripe apple and physalis with a light note of ripeness. There is also a little petrol and rooibos in the background. With air, some dried herbs and orange slices mix into the aroma.
Tasting Notes
The scent of the 2015 Federspiel Im Weingebirge is reminiscent of cooling biscuit dough, biscuit and a little caramel with lemon curd, ripe apple and physalis with a light note of ripeness. There is also a little petrol and rooibos in the background. With air, some dried herbs and orange slices mix into the aroma. There is a lot of terroir in this mature Federspiel. The Grüner Veltliner revels in ripe, juicy, slightly mellow, yellow-golden fruit, in a blend of herbs, slightly stony spiciness, a little extract and saltiness. The texture of this Grüner Veltliner is stunningly elegant and silky. The acidity is ripe as well as silky, it is lively and lasting. The wine has lost some of the racy character it had a few years ago. But it has increased in length and depth, ebbs away only very slowly, becoming saltier and finer at the end.
