Fritz Waßmer Spätburgunder
Fine Pinot nose with strawberry & cherry with a roasted undertone which clearly shows Germany’s format. This has become one of the most successful German red entry level wine thanks to Fritz Waßmer’s flair and passionate love for Pinot Noir. The harvest is manual and the transport from the various parcels down to the winery takes place in small plastic boxes so as not to damage the grapes. All stalks are removed and the grapes are sorted again prior to fermentation, which occurs spontaneously in a mixture of stainless steel and large old wooden casks. Then 12 months of aging in used casks from Burgundy until light filtration and bottling. Here are lovely notes of strawberries, raspberries, but no “German sweetness”. Simply a cool, juicy, cleansing and refined Spätburgunder with a Burgundian soul.
Tasting Notes
A classic Burgundy and an outstanding representative of the wonderful 2018 vintage. Balanced, with harmonious acidity, fine, ripe tannins and perfect fruit: raspberry, blackberry, even a little anise over a powerful structure. Despite an abundance of aromas, the wine is balanced and approachable.
Serving temperature: approx. 16° - 18°C.
