Oxer Wines Iraun Rioja

Iraun comes from the Basque language, from the verb Perdurar. It is a small tribute from Oxer to his mother tongue, a language that despite history and its adversities, remained firm. It is considered one of the oldest languages in the world. The label shows an 'Akelarre' venerating the 'Oriboro', a serpent from Basque mythology which bites its tail with a nod to eternity, referring to the fact that the beginning is the end.

Tasting Notes

On the nose aromas of white fruit, citrus notes, sweet spices and a floral background. In the mouth, it shows an acidity and a magnificent minerality that gives it an incredibly long length.

Grape variety: 80% Viura, 10% Calagraño and the remaining 10% Malvasía, Maturana Blanca & Garnacha Blanca.

Vineyards: 1ha vineyard planted in 1920 in the town of Elvillar (Rioja Alavesa) at 600 meters of altitude, on clay-calcareous soil. Old-fashioned mixed plantation of Tempranillo, Calagraño and Viura, with a yield of 3,000 kg per hectare. The Maturana blanca and the Garnacha Blanca come from another vineyard planted just 200 meters away.

Vinification: Alcoholic fermentation with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel tanks, previously seeking hyperoxidation when pressing. Subsequently, the wine is passed into jars and used 500L French oak barrels where it finishes fermenting and where it will remain for 12 months for subsequent assembly and bottling.

Serving temperature: Serve at 10.0°C.
